Mekong River International Multisport Asian Cup
23 - 25 March 2007

 

The Asian Triathlon Cup is a race series consisting of 14 races held between March and September throughout the continent. Races are held in Thailand, Korea, Japan, Macau, Hong Kong and many other places. The Asian Cup provides Asian athletes with a platform to compete at an elite level, to improve their performances and to eventually compete in the pinnacle of Olympic distance triathlon, the World Cup Series.

  • Accredited by: The Triathlon Association of Thailand, The Asian Triathlon Confederation
  • Organized by: Triathlon Association of Thailand
  • Sanctioned by: The Asian Triathlon Confederation and run under ASTC & ITU rules. It is your responsibility to familiarise yourself with the rules.

  • Categories & Distances:

    1. Buddy Bike & Run Challenge: 2 persons + 1 bike (unspecification) 30 km.
    Regulation: There is 1 runner and 1 cyclist get along together within 1 meter.
    The athletes can exchange to run and ride or keep still reaching to the finish line.

    2. Aquathlon Asian Championship 2007 (Swimming in the Mekong River 1,000 m. + running 5 km.)

    3. Duathlon Asian Championship 2007
    (running+biking) divided into 2 categories
    • 3.1 Standard Distance Duathlon (running 10 km. + biking 40 km. + running 5 km.)
    • 3.2 Sprint Distance Duathlon (running 5 km. + biking 20 km. + running 5 km.)

    4. Triathlon Asian Cup 2007 (swimming+biking+running) divided into 2 distances;
    • 4.1 Olympic Distance triathlon (swimming in the Mekong River 1.5 km. + biking 40 km. + running 10 km.)
    • 4.2 Sprint Distance triathlon (swimming in the Mekong River 750 m. + biking 20 km. + running 5 km.)
  • Rules: ITU rules and ASTC Rules will be applied.
  • Equipment: The equipment of competitors (Bicycle, helmet etc.) must abide by ITU and ASTC rules and regulations. Mountain bikes will be allowed for Age Group athletes provided that the bikes are coincident with safety regulations.
  • Doping control: Doping control will be proceeded.
  • Weather: Air temperature: average 25 – 27 Celsius in the morning
  • Water temperature: average 22 - 23 Celsius
  • Categories: **The age will be determined by the year 2007**

    1) Olympic Triathlon Asian Cup Series
    Elite Male & Elite Female
    Age groups: Men under  29 yrs, Men 30 39 yrs, Men 40 49 yrs, Men 50 yrs and above, Women: Open

    2) Sprint Triathlon Asian Cup Series
    Elite Jr. Boy & Elite Jr. Girl
    Age groups: Men under 19 yrs.,  Women under 19 yrs. Men open and Women open

    3) Standard Duathlon Asian Championship
    Elite Male & Elite Female
    Age groups: Men under  29 yrs, Men 30 39 yrs, Men 40 49 yrs, Men 50 yrs and above, Women: Open

    4) Sprint Duathlon Asian Championship
    Elite Jr. Boy & Elite Jr. Girl
    Age groups: Men under 19 yrs.,  Women under 19 yrs. Men open and Women open

    5) Aquathlon Asian Championship
    Elite male & Elite Female
    Elite Jr. Boy & Elite Jr. Girl
    Age groups: Men under 19 yrs.,  Women under 19 yrs. Men open and Women open

    6) Buddy Bike & Run: Team Men Open & Team Women Open

  • Courses:
    1. Swimming in the Mekong River
    2. Biking on the flat road for Triathlon, Duathlon, and Buddy Bike & Run
    3. Running on the road (any further information will be informed in the technical briefing’s day)
    Remark: For the standard of international competition, the organizing committee does not allow to use life vest for swimming. The athlete who could not swim well may participate in Duathlon or Buddy Bike & Run
  • Awards:
    1. The winner (male and female) of Triathlon, Duathlon and Aquathlon will receive the Prime Minister’s Trophy.
    2. The first, second and third runner-up in age group of Triathlon, Duathlon and Aquathlon and the winner team of Buddy Bike & Run category will receive a shield.
    3. All athletes who reach to finish line will receive the medal.

    Prize Money Baht 524,000: Any participant who got the place as follow, will be received prize purse:

    1. Olympic Distance Triathlon: Baht 182,000 for Top 10 of men and Top 5 of participants (Elite & Age groupers)

  • How To Get There:

    Car
    1. From Bangkok, take Bangkok-Saraburi-Nakhon Ratchasima-Ban Phai-Maha Sarakham-Phonthong-Roi Et-Kham Cha Ei-Mukdahan route.
    2. From Bangkok, take Bangkok- Nakhon Ratchasima route then use Highway No.207 via Prathai, Phuthaisong, Phayakkhaphumphisai, Suwannaphum and take Highway No.2169 via Sai Mun, Kut Chum and Loeng Nok Tha before turning into Highway No.212 via Nikom Kam Soi to Mukdahan

    Bus
    There are buses leaving for Mukdahan daily from the Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal (Mochit 2 Bus Terminal) Tel.0 2936 2852-66. Additionally, there are many buses from many provinces such as Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Udon Thani, and Maha sarakham to Mukdahan.     Train
